I am planning to buy a Digital Video Recorder and could find a reasonab;e priced one --tivo.My requirement is to record TV programs when I am not at home or when I am viewing a different channels.I want to know if this TV Digital video recorder will work for our Indian TV's and satellite providers like Dish TV.

No. US TiVos only work with NTSC video and 120V service, plus require a subscription that provides only US/Canadian guide data. I recommend you get a generic recorder that can accept PAL video and 240V power, or better, one sold for/in you market.

How do i set up my xp media center pc to act as a TiVo or digital video recorder?
i'm pretty sure there's a way to do it, but my OS didn't come with instructions (yes, it was legitimately bought from tiger direct). i have an ATI all-in-wonder 9800 graphics card with a cable input, and i have plenty of hard drive space (100gb+). could anyone shed some light on this?

Have you installed the OS? You will also need an MCE encoder. You can google "MCE encoder". There are several sources including Roxio and mainconcept. I believe that you can download the Roxio and try it. Many of the ATI AIW cards are not fully compatible with MCE. The video card portion is, but the tuner is not. I suggest you double check with them to confirm that your card is fully compatible. Setting up the TV recording is pretty straightforward. If you're already past the foregoing, email me and I'll respond with instructions. MCE has many features which I'm very happy with, and some limitations Im not. Good luck.

Saving TiVo-like digital video recorder data onto DVD's?
I have a Dish Digital Video Recorder (similar to a TiVo unit-essentially a harddrive to save digital TV/cable data). It is model DP Plus625. I've got lots of TV programs recorded on it. I'd like to save them on DVD's. Is there a way to do that? I also have a Panasonic DMR-ES15 DVD RECORDER. Can I use this to record the material from the DP Plus625 onto DVD's? Can I use this to burn DVD's from the DP Plus625 unit.

Yes, you would need to run the video output from the DVR to the the input of the DVD recorder.
